Berlin Tax Forum
In Spring 2002, the Federal Association of German Industry (BDI) and P+P Pöllath + Partners launched the Berliner Steuergespräche ("Berlin Tax Conferences"), an association which seeks to offer a forum for discussions among all people involved with tax law and its economic and legal impact. Its purpose is to promote discussion; and the exchange of views between politicians, business, judicature and academia and takes place on a quarterly basis. The principle idea goes beyond presenting and commenting current tax law. The forum also reflects upon the legislative proposals under consideration in Berlin and its subsequent effects on everyday tax law practice. The Berliner Steuergespräche e.V. (a registered, charitable, non-profit organisation) was founded on 2 December 2002.
The Berliner Steuergespräche are designed to be a mixture of lectures, talks and discussions. Two guest speakers briefly present the current topic, followed by statements from the panelist. These lead to a discussion open to the floor. Moderator is Prof. Dr. Dieter Birk, Director of the Institute of Tax Law at the University of Münster.
The Berliner Steuergespräche e.V. aims to promote and foster tax law in the areas of academia, research and education by arranging and organizing conferences and talks between government officials, tax lawyers, tax consultants, judges, public administration, university professors and other experts.
The board of directors consists of Prof. Dr. Dieter Birk (chairman), the Honorable Judge at the Supreme Tax Court Michael Wendt and the President of the State Tax Court of Berlin/Brandenburg Prof. Dr. Claus Lambrecht, LL.M. The scientific advisory board, instated by statute, presides under the chair of the Honorable Judge at the Federal Constitutional Court Prof. Dr. h.c. Rudolf Mellinghoff and Head of Department in the Federal Ministry of Finance Gert Müller-Gatermann. The managing directors are attorney-at-law Berthold Welling and attorney-at-law Dr. Andreas Richter.
