Associate in real estate transactions: A job with perspective

Dr. Puya Rezai Hariri, LL.M., Counsel, Real Estate, Berlin

Real estate business law is a varied and exciting interdisciplinary subject, which opens up many opportunities for your own specialization. This variety allows for engagement with a broad range of content and leads to constant interaction with other practice groups within the firm. The mandates and frequently dynamic transaction process, which we supervise closely from beginning to end, bring a thrill to the work we do.

Naturally, the focus of our work is real estate. This makes the work vivid - everyday life often takes you past major projects in the cityscape on which you yourself have provided legal advice. Real estate transactions are the main focus of our practice group. Here, the advice we provide extends from the purchase and sale of real estate (asset deal) to companies holding real estate (share deal). We thoroughly examine the property or company in the course of legal due diligence and the corresponding purchase contracts are drafted, negotiated and concluded. We work together in teams and are iconstantly interacting. In this way, we can jointly deal with the various issues and the often tight schedule in the interests of a speedy conclusion of the transaction. In addition to classic transaction consulting, other areas of consulting also play a role. These include, in particular, project development and (commercial) leases and corporate law issues when advising on real estate-related joint ventures or share deals.

An associate at POELLATH is involved in the clients’ work from the very beginning. Thus, direct client contact is established at an early stage. Not just legal finesse is required here - empathy and a distinct commercial mindset are also crucial. POELLATH supports you in developing these and other skills. During the first months as a young lawyer, there is also a lot of training on the job in the field of real estate and POELLATH's training program is also comprehensive. Among other things, in cooperation with the University of Münster, the law firm offers the opportunity to complete a subject-specific and practical LL.M. course of study while working. Although the extra-occupational course of study involves an additional time commitment along with the client work, it is worth it! The exchange with practitioners from various sectors opens up new perspectives on the real estate business and improves the understanding of the clients’ needs. In addition, our Non-Legal Skills Program covers the area of soft skills, which includes pitches, negotiation and presentation techniques.
