POELLATH advises ABN AMRO Ventures on the sale of Penta to Qonto

French financial start-up Qonto is acquiring its German counterpart Penta.

According to the company, Berlin-based fintech Penta is the market leader in digital finance management for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the self-employed and freelancers in Germany, with 200 employees and 50,000 customers.

With 700 employees, Qonto serves 250,000 companies in Germany, France, Italy and Spain and is the market leader in France in this segment. In addition to actual bank accounts, the company also offers services such as digitization of receipts for accounting and interfaces to external companies such as the software provider Datev. The French unicorn most recently raised EUR 486 million earlier this year.

Penta is a portfolio company of ABN AMRO Ventures, the corporate venture capital arm of Dutch ABN AMRO Bank. It focuses on strategic investments in technology companies relevant to banks and their digital transformation of products and services.
