Kanzleien in Deutschland (Law Firms in Germany) 2012

The objective of this publication is to critically present the leading German commercial law firms.

The research was carried out by an independent editorial staff that includes qualified lawyers. Accordingly, the overall "good placement of the firm" is demonstrated by the appointment of five new partners in 2011, including the 'external heavyweights' Wolfram Pätzold, Jan Wildberger and Pia Dorfmueller.
Thus, P+P is among the leading German firms for mid-size M&A deals, as well as being one of the most highly qualified representatives for investment business. In Germany there are 'very few firms that .... achieve this high standard', due in great part to Reinhard Pöllath, who virtually invented private equity in Germany. His comrade-in-arms Andreas Rodin has focused on tax issues, which is the reason the firm is also considered very powerful in this area.
P+P is also considered to be a 'top address - over 300 funds trust the expertise of the firm'; Andreas Rodin and Uwe Bärenz are considered exemplary colleagues in this area. 'The spectrum of services extends beyond the classic investor counseling on the founding of companies and supervisory duties, as well as the development of complex management remuneration'. The recognized experts are, in particular, Matthias Bruse, Amos Veith and Patricia Volhard. Andreas Junius is also known for his good contacts in advising scharia investors.
In the areas of M&A and venture capital, 'clients trust the expertise of the firm, especially in uncertain times'; P+P relies on small, manageable teams. In addition, P+P has acquired particular competence in restructuring; Matthias Bruse is considered to be strong in this area as well. P+P demonstrates 'significant expertise' in the corporate area, in particular represented by P+P partners Andrea von Drygalski and Patricia Volhard. Benedikt Hohaus scores very well in advising on management participations and Philipp von Braunschweig and Otto Haberstock impress with their all-around expertise on joint ventures and company sales and purchases. The appointment of Jan Wildberger is considered 'very positive'; he 'significantly strengthens' the firm by 'bridging the advisory gap between M&A and private equity'.
P+P is also very active in venture capital, with Michael Inhester and the young partner Christian Tönies, who has attracted attention in the market for his talents in transactions and private equity deals.
The corporate law practice has developed substantially due to Wolfgang Grobecker, with help from Counsel Eva Nase, who also could take the lead on certain deals in the medium term. Wolfgang Grobecker is also considered a 'stroke of luck' for P+P; he supports his colleagues and has optimally integrated into the partnership.
The tax law practice of P+P has traditionally been strongly connected to the other legal specialties with many overlaps and is also particularly mandated by clients in questions on transactional, restructuring and fund structuring issues, who usually mandate other firms for these issues. Mentioned lawyers include Thomas Töben, Michael Best, Dieter Birk and Pia Dorfmueller who is considered extremely well versed in international tax questions. Alexander Pupeter is also admired within the market because he optimally combines the qualities of both a lawyer and a tax advisor.
Munich partner Stephan Viskorf is able to use his tax law expertise for private clients, an additional focus of the firm and an area in which he has an 'outstanding reputation'. Name partner Reinhard Pöllath is 'greatly renowned' and Christoph Philipp is known within the market as a highly competent lawyer.
P+P is particularly known for its real estate law practice in Berlin and is well-connected with "overall good visibility in the market". The appointment of Wolfram Pätzold was considered a 'major coup' for the Munich office; he also offers 'true value' for his Berlin colleagues.
