14 Professionals listed in “JUVE Handbuch Steuerrecht 2023”, of whom 6 are “leading”

In its current ranking guide, the JUVE Handbook Tax Law 2023 presents 186 advisory firms and advisors from six regions and ten different sub-practice areas of tax law and tax advisory. The research team, which now includes 41 specialist editors, conducted 2,159 interviews with clients, representatives of public authorities and advisors in law firms and advisory companies. No one can buy a listing in the guide. The guide is intended to help make the increasingly confusing market for tax services more transparent.

POELLATH is mentioned with a total of 14 professionals, 6 of whom are distinguished as “leading advisors”. The firm is thus represented by at least one “leading advisor” in almost every specialized practice area.

The “High Net Worth Private Clients and Non-Profits” is represented by three top experts, with Dr. Andreas Richter, Prof. Dr. Reinhard Pöllath and Dr. Stephan Viskorf as “leading advisors”. Together with the rest of the team, they once again guaranteed the highest score for the firm.

POELLATH is among the “dominant entities” because “high-net-worth private clients, primarily billion-dollar family businesses and large foundations, have long relied on the law and tax firm’s tax and legal advice”. While the Berlin office is expanding its advisory in the foundation and non-profit sectors, the Munich office is seeing a significant increase in advice on asset structuring for private equity managers and former start-up companies. The Frankfurt office, however, is enjoying the greatest success. With a “team that has grown significantly” and now two partners following the appointment of a young partner [Dr. Katharina Hemmen], it is “hard to imagine the firm’s practice without” Frankfurt. Dr. Hemmen’s appointment is based not least on her leadership in advising a billionaire entrepreneurial family with over 200 shareholders on succession planning.

The firm also scores points in “Personal Corporate Tax” with two “leading advisors”: Dr. Benedikt Hohaus and Dr. Barbara Koch-Schulte continue to be the measure of all things in the market when it comes to “remuneration systems and management buy-in / buy-out”. The firm advises PE investors, managing directors/executive board members and industrial enterprises in equal measure and “forms a powerful team with transaction expert Dr. Nico Fischer”.

As a result, the firm “continues to be one of the market leaders” in providing tax advice to management programs and also enjoys “an excellent reputation” in advising mid-sized private equity houses and financial investors, which includes acquisition structuring in addition to advice on tax contract clauses. This applies to both the Munich and Berlin offices, which also distinguish themselves with a “clear focus” on advising on real estate transactions.

Berlin partner Dr. Hardy Fischer and Dr. Michael Best in Munich are “frequently recommended”.

Dr. Best is also recommended for his expertise in finance tax, as are his colleagues Uwe Bärenz, Ronald Buge, Dr. Jens Steinmüller and Amos Veith. With Amos Veith, the firm also boasts a top expert listed as a “leading Advisor” in this specialized practice area.

The firm is regarded in the market as “one of the most important players in tax, regulatory and corporate law advice” and, thanks to its “integrated finance tax team”, has meanwhile advanced to become “the largest specialist team in the market”.

Dr. Stephan Schade, who was appointed partner last year, is a major contributor due to his “pursuit of comprehensive KVG compliance”. As a result, POELLATH’s advice on fund structuring and investments has remained stable, even “in the face of investment pressure from institutional investors”.
