JUVE Handbook Commercial Law Firms 2016/2017

25 partners recommended, 9 ranked leading

22 specialty editors from JUVE Handbuch Wirtschaftskanzleien (Handbook Commercial Law Firms) conducted 10,800 interviews with law firms and clients. In the course of their research, they selected 810 law firms in 21 regions and in 42 fields of law.

Once again, P+P has 25 recommended partners; of these, 9 are listed as the leading advisors in their respective areas of expertise. Thus, leading experts represent all of the firm's core specialties.
Juve states that the firm "has the best resources on almost all relevant issues, from the market-leading fund structuring practice to its special expertise in tax and real estate law and also the renowned teams for post-M&A disputes and succession issues". P+P thereby receives a top-tier ranking for private equity, with Andrea von Drygalski as a leading attorney in the market and Christian Tönies as a leading advisor for venture capital. P+P is "known for having the broadest range of advisors in its German mid-cap private equity and venture capital practice". The "almost unrivalled experience of Benedikt Hohaus's team for management participations has an "excellent reputation" in the market and builds the bridge to the M&A practice. The advisors are traditionally active in both practice areas and thereby most advisors are also recommended for both of these practices. In addition to Andrea von Drygalski ("professionally very knowledgeable, practically oriented"), the recommended advisors include Matthias Bruse ("very versatile in M&A with excellent knowledge of tax issues"), Philipp von Braunschweig, Benedikt Hohaus, Otto Haberstock, Georg Greitemann ("effective collaborator"), Jens Hörmann ("experienced and good"), Michael Inhester ("very experienced, good overview, pragmatic and personable, strong negotiator, entrepreneurial thinker") and Christian Tönies ("excellent networker, solution-oriented and experienced").

Furthermore, P+P has very good connections with leading funds and is well-known in the market for "excellent advice on fund structuring". The firm's long-term strengths include expertise in private equity, venture capital and investment tax law for investment funds and asset management. The Frankfurt-based partners Andreas Rodin ("outstanding in venture capital") and Patricia Volhard ("almost without competition in her practice area") are frequently recommended, as well as Amos Veith ("service-oriented, prompt, legally precise, up-to-date on current practice") and Uwe Bärenz in Berlin.

In the corporate law practice, Wolfgang Grobecker is also a leading P+P partner ("professionally top-notch, pragmatic"). He and his colleague Eva Nase are praised for their "superlative corporate practice". The team advises a large number of family companies and is expanding the practice in corporation law and industrial group law, as well as corporate litigation. One of the team's particular strengths is „exceptionally good access to owner families" and this practice is closely linked to advice on succession and wealth management issues.

For many years, P+P has been a leading firm for advice on succession, private clients and foundations, with the likewise leading partners Andreas Richter and Reinhard Pöllath as its vanguards. Juve positively notes that P+P is setting the course for the future by integrating the younger attorneys and the various practice areas. In addition to Reinhard Pöllath and Andreas Richter ("top-tier in nonprofit law"), the Munich-based partners Stephan Viskorf (tax law), Matthias Bruse and Wolfgang Grobecker (both corporate law) are also highly recommended.

One also sees interdisciplinary networking in P+P's tax practice. One of the strengths of the tax team is the "top-class (inheritance) tax practice for investments of wealthy private clients". In this area, P+P also has two leading experts: Thomas Töben for tax planning and Dieter Birk for tax disputes. Other frequently recommended advisors are Andreas Rodin and the Munich-based partner Michael Best. Tax expert Peter Bujotzek was recently named partner and the corporate tax practice continues to develop favorably. Juve nominated the firm for its award for "Law Firm of the Year for Tax Law 2016". All in all, the team offers a broad spectrum of tax advice related to fund structuring, transactions and private equity, as well as real estate.

The booming real estate market has ensured that P+P demonstrates particular growth in transactional advice. Stefan Lebek ("professional and pragmatic, combines expertise with an aptitude for negotiations, competent, cooperative and goal-oriented") and Matthias Durst ("very competent and pleasant partner in negotiations") are also listed as leading partners; Carsten Führling is also frequently recommended. Other practice areas include financing, asset management and project development.
